Wildlife species in Massachusetts are assessed for population viability and given designations through MESA, the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act.  These designations are fluid, changing and impacted by many factors. Here is the link to current designations of indigenous Massachusetts species:

https://www.mass.gov/service-details/list-of-endangered-threatened-and-special-concern-species.

If you find an animal which is designated as Endangered, Threatened, or of Special Concern, please report it immediately to the Massachusetts Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at 508-389-6360. Ensuring the survival of these species is a joint effort, and the public’s help is critical.
